Biography

MP – Liberal Member for Clark – Tasmania

Simon Behrakis MP is an Australian politician serving as a Liberal Member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly for the seat of Clark, which includes Hobart, the Tasmanian State Capital. Simon has a track record in fighting for the issues that affect the community – building more housing, reducing congestion, and growing our economy. Simon Behrakis was born and raised in Hobart, and currently serves as a member for Clark. He earned his Bachelor of Economics from the University of Tasmania in 2016 and gained invaluable experience in small business management through working in Salamanca Fresh, his family’s business. This hands-on experience has given Simon key insights into the opportunities and challenges that small businesses face, driving his advocacy for policies promoting economic development.
From his time as an Alderman on the Hobart City Council, where he chaired the City Planning Committee, to his current role as Parliamentary Secretary for Housing and Planning, Simon has been passionate in advocating for facilitating development and increasing housing supply to address housing shortages. He is also passionate about issues such as addressing youth crime and advocacy for Tasmanians with ADHD.
In early 2023, prior to his election to the Tasmanian Parliament, Simon was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) which has helped shape his advocacy to highlighting the importance of understanding and improving outcomes for people living with the condition. His approach to politics is characterised by a focus on practical solutions, relationship building and a dedication to the well-being of his constituents.
