About Chris Benson
Chris Benson was the first serving headteacher in the UK to publicly disclose living with ADHD on a national level. With 15 years' experience leading schools in the UK and internationally, he has lived neurodivergence from every seat at the table — as a pupil, a teacher, a headteacher, and as the parent of an autistic son and a daughter with ADHD who spent eight months unable to face school.
Since disclosing and speaking openly about his own ADHD, Chris has heard from over 1,000 serving and former teachers and school leaders with ADHD, autism and dyslexia — a response that shapes how he works to bring about meaningful and sustainable change.
He is Education Lead at ADHD UK, a regular author for Tes Magazine on neurodiversity and education, and founder of HeadFirst Consulting, where he works with schools, staff and families to build genuinely inclusive, evidence-based support.
He believes neurodivergence isn't a deficit to be corrected, but a difference to be understood — and that real change happens when pupils, parents and schools work in partnership rather than isolation.
