Same ADHD, Different Worlds: How Culture Shapes ADHD in Women
Questions are open for this session25 asked · vote for the ones you want answeredAsk a question

Five women, four countries, one hour. ADHD is the same condition wherever you live, but being a woman with ADHD is not the same everywhere. The words used about a girl before anyone thinks of ADHD, what a "good" woman is expected to be, who gets blamed when a child struggles, and what happens when a woman finally asks for help all change when you cross a border.

This warm, eye-opening panel brings together leading voices from the USA, South Africa, Singapore and Japan: clinicians, advocates and women who know ADHD first-hand, in their own lives and their families. Every panellist answers the same questions, so you'll hear the answers change as the conversation travels around the world.

Expect honest stories, surprising contrasts and real hope: what each country is getting right, what needs to change, and what every one of us can learn from the rest of the world. Hosted by Lauren Jennings, ADHD UK Trustee and Lead Ambassador. Akiko Hashiguchi joins in Japanese, with live English captions.

About the ADHD and women: a cross-cultural panel

Juané du Randt is a Registered Counsellor and the Operations Manager at the Goldilocks and the Bear Foundation, where she is dedicated to holistic well-being and transformative growth. She holds a BA in Psychology, a BPsych degree, and is a Level 1 DBT practitioner. With a passion for integrating lifestyle coaching, she emphasises the power of movement, nutrition, and mindset in managing mental health, particularly ADHD. Diagnosed with ADHD later in life, Juané brings deep personal insight and empathy into her work, making her a strong advocate for neurodiverse individuals. She is especially passionate about empowering families through education, practical tools, and a whole-person approach to care. Her special interest in sport and nutrition complements her clinical work, offering dynamic, sustainable pathways to thriving with ADHD.

Rachel Feldman, LCSW, ADHD-CCSP, ASD-CSP, is the founder of Psychotheraplay, LLC, a neurodiversity-affirming private practice in Englewood, New Jersey, specializing in ADHD, autism, and AuDHD across the lifespan. She provides therapy and comprehensive diagnostic assessments in person and via telehealth. Her psychodynamic approach draws on neuro-affirming psychotherapy, DBT, DIR/Floortime, PDA-informed practice, and polyvagal theory. Rachel serves on the National Board of Directors of CHADD, where she co-chairs the Development Committee, and is a member of the PDA Therapy Collective. She presents internationally on AuDHD and PDA and writes for Attention Magazine.

Growing up as a high-achieving student, Clara Nah, Senior Executive at Unlocking ADHD, never suspected she had ADHD, despite experiencing persistent challenges. When the structure of school fell away, she began to feel like a duck on water—appearing calm and composed on the surface, while working tirelessly beneath just to stay afloat. Her diagnosis in her twenties marked a pivotal moment, providing clarity and direction in her mental health journey. Today, Clara is dedicated to building communities that support and empower neurodivergent individuals, bringing both lived experience and a deep sense of empathy to her work.

Akiko Hashiguchi began her work to raise awareness and understanding of developmental disorders 25 years ago, following her son’s diagnosis with ADHD. She left Canon Inc. to devote herself fully to this work. She is currently the Representative Director of Bridges to Inclusion Co., Ltd. and works as a universal design consultant specialising in developmental disorders. Her work centres on sharing tips for environmental adaptations based on the social model—which is central to understanding developmental disorders—and she has been involved in drafting guidelines for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the 2025 Osaka World Expo. She also works with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Japan Tourism Agency.

Jeremy Didier, LSCSW, LMAC, ADHD-CCSP, is a licensed clinician, nationally recognized speaker, co-chair of CHADD’s Advocacy & Public Committee and CHADD’s Immediate Past President. She is also the founder of ADHDKC, Kansas City’s Award-Winning CHADD Chapter, and runs TreehouseADHD, a private practice in the Kansas City area. With more than fifteen years of experience, Jeremy’s work focuses on ADHD in girls and women, ADHD and addiction, and justice-involved individuals. Diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, she brings both clinical expertise and lived experience to her advocacy, education, and public speaking. She is also the proud mom of five children, four of whom are neurodivergent.
